Spontaneous Trip to Edinburgh! (August 17)

After research, I was planning on going home and relaxing, and packing up for camping at Loch Lomond for the weekend. That was the original plan. But then I got a message from Fiona while I was at work, and the plans changed! Her sister couldn’t go, so we were going to postpone. Instead, we hopped on a train up to Edinburgh shortly after I got back and met up with her other sister (who lives in Edinburgh). The train ride was so gorgeous! It was at sunset, so not only were there field and hills of endless green, there was also a sky bursting with color. SO pretty! Unfortunately, I couldn’t get a great picture because we were in a lit train and there were lots of reflections.

We arrived in Edinburgh, and this gorgeous purple bridge was the first thing I saw! Apparently it isn’t lit like this, but there is a month-long festival in Edinburgh during August.

We got to her sister Karen’s house and turned on the TV to relax and ended up watching “Magic” – one of their music channels. So there we were, enjoying a glass of wine and singing and dancing to “60 Songs That Will Live Forever.” It’s a wonder we got out of the house! We met up with Karen and went to a pub called The Voodoo Room. It was really cool inside, and they made really elaborate cocktails! Since it was during the Fringe Festival, there was a free Cabaret show at midnight. We went down to see it and….it was interesting! Definitely very Burlesque…also very funny though. Karen got called up on stage to help with part of the show so that was exciting! Then we went to The Street Bar…another interesting place! The music was great – stuff everyone knows and can dance to. The bathrooms were interesting. You know how girls always go in pairs and groups to the bathroom? Well, apparently this bar took note and there was a stall in the women’s restroom with 2 toilets! As I said – interesting. The equivalent of our California burritos or carne asada fries at the end of a night is “chips” here (our French fries – but thick ones). We HAD to stop and get chips and when I asked for Ketchup, I got more Ketchup than chip. Blehhhh. We ate what we could, then walked home!

Oh, and I took this throughout the day in my rainboots. :)
