Today we walked around Edinburgh. We
went into the city and walked up the Royal Mile, which was just BUSTLING with
people for the festival. As we were walking up, there were tons of people
scattered around putting on small shows with giant crowds around them, and
there were also random stages all over. It was really fun and quite the
experience! There were so many people, you almost couldn’t walk for yourself.
It was almost like a one-with-the-crowd type thing.
We walked around some more
and saw the castle, but didn’t go in this time. (We’ll be returning to do
that!)
Edinburgh Castle
Then we got hungry and went to a Mexican chain called Chiquitos- bad
idea! The food was fine, but we were in there from 3-5. It took SO long to get
our food. Luckily the food really was good, and we were in good company to pass the time.
Strawberry Daiquiri - my favorite!
Then we went over to Fiona’s brother’s house in Edinburgh and visited
with him, his wife, and their little son. We had Chinese food (I had bland,
non-spicy Chinese food...) and chatted the night away!
And now an aside about the below image. :) Many of you have asked me if people really REALLY wear kilts in Scotland...like, for serious. And they do! Usually it's only for formal events and weddings, but I've definitely seen guys just walking around the streets in kilts. I haven't been able to take pictures because it would be considered rude I think, since it's just normal people living their lives. But in Edinburgh I finally got a chance to take a picture! This guy is just ASKING for his picture to be taken on the side of the street. So here is a picture of a guy in a kilt and an answer to the question - YES, they really do wear kilts here. :)
