Today, I was working
in the lab and started hearing bagpipes – lots of them, and lots of drumming. It
turns out the World Bagpipe Championship was that upcoming weekend and tons and
tons of groups were in the city practicing. It was so cool to be sitting in lab
hear the bagpipes right outside the lab in the park! Only in Scotland…!
Wednesday is
free movie day! Well, for us at least, thanks to Orange and the NHS. :) Anyway,
I met up with Fiona to see The Five Year Engagement at the cinema. Let me take
a second to tell you about this cinema. Six stories. SIX STORIES. Six
“movie-theater-height” stories. Each “story” had to be at least 3 or 4 normal stories. Anyway, I think you
get the point that this place is awesome. The movie was enjoyable, and
afterwards we went up to the top to see a great view of the city lit up. We
started down the escalator, then about a third of the way down realized we
wanted to take the glass elevator down. All it took was “I will if you will!”
and we were off, running back up the down escalator. And it was a
success!!......until the top. Of course just as I was getting to the top I
stubbed my toe and ate it, then Fiona started laughing at me for eating it - and did
just the same. So here we were, late at night, stumbling up the escalator
trying to catch our breaths from laughing. Well, the glass elevator ride down
was extra special from all the work it took to get there! As we were waiting
for our taxi, we saw some more groups of people practicing for the bagpipe
championship in their kilts! Such a Scottish day. ;)
We're IN the Olympics! ;)
